Hastelloy is a name for a family of corrosion-resistant alloys. This nickel alloy is primarily composed of nickel, chromium, and molybdenum. The Hastelloy series are known for their exceptional resistance to a wide range of corrosive environments, including acids, alkalis, and chlorides. The super alloys of nickel is commonly used in industries such as chemical processing, aerospace, oil & gas, and pollution control.

The Hastelloy family includes several different grades. Some widely used popular grades of Hastelloy include Hastelloy C-276, Hastelloy C-22, Hastelloy B-3, and Hastelloy X. Each grade of Hastelloy has its own unique composition and properties. However, they all share the common characteristic of high corrosion resistance.

According to portals, Hastelloy alloys are preferred om environments where other materials, such as stainless steel, may not provide adequate corrosion resistance. Hastelloy offers excellent resistance to both uniform and localized corrosion. As well as stress corrosion cracking. Hastelloy alloys are also widely known for their high-temperature strength. This makes them suitable for use in extreme temperature conditions.

Due to the Hastelloy composition, mechanical properties, and superior corrosion resistance, this alloy is widely used in various applications. These applications include chemical reactors, heat exchangers, flue gas desulfurization systems, seawater handling equipment, and llnuclear reactors. Hastelloy has proven to be a reliable and durable material in challenging and corrosive environments. Here are some of the various types of Hastelloy alloy:

1. Hastelloy C22: -

Hastelloy C-22 is a specific grade within the Hastelloy alloy family. It is renowned for its corrosion-resistive properties. The Hastelloy composition of this specific alloy composes of nickel, chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten. This alloy also contains small amounts of iron, cobalt, and other material. Due to the special hastelloy composition of C 22, it has exceptional corrosive resistive properties in a wide range of corrosive resistive properties.

Due to the resistive properties to a wide range of corrosive chemicals, Hastelloy C-22 features versatility in its application. It is commonly used in industries such as chemical processing, pollution control, waste treatment, pulp and paper, and pharmaceuticals. This alloy maintains excellent corrosion-resistive properties even at elevated temperatures. This alloy can withstand temperatures ranging from cryogenic to high temperatures without compromising its corrosion resistance.

Hastelloy C-22 is easily fabricated using standard techniques. It can be welded using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, and shielded metal arc welding. It is suggested by experts that proper welding practices and techniques should be followed to maintain its corrosion resistance.

2. Hastelloy c276: -

Hastelloy C276 is another grade of alloy within the Hastelloy alloy family. It primarily consists of nickel, molybdenum, and chromium. It also contains trace amounts of iron, tungsten, and cobalt. Due to the specific composition of Hastelloy C-276, it gets excellent resistance to a wide range of corrosive environments. Hastelloy C-276 offers outstanding resistance to corrosion in various aggressive chemical environments. This alloy of nickel is highly resistant to corrosion by oxidizing acids, such as nitric acid and ferric chloride. It is also resistant to sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid. Additionally, it has excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.

This alloy is corrosion resistive properties at elevated temperatures. It can withstand cryogenic as well as high temperatures without compromising its corrosion resistance. Thus, it is suitable for applications involving both extreme cold and high heat. Hastelloy C276 is easily fabricated using standard techniques. However, like other Hastelloy alloys, proper welding practices and techniques should be followed to maintain its corrosion resistance.

3. Hastelloy B3: -

Hastelloy B3 is a highly versatile nickel alloy of the Hastelloy family. The nickel alloys are primarily composed of nickel with significant additions of molybdenum, chromium, and iron. This alloy also contains small amounts of tungsten and cobalt. Due to the composition of B3, it has superior resistance to corrosion in various aggressive chemical environments. It offers resistance to corrosion in highly corrosive media, including sulfuric, hydrochloric, and phosphoric acids. Hastelloy B-3 is well suited for applications where sulfuric acid is present. It is commonly used in chemical reactors, process vessels, evaporators, heat exchangers, pickling equipment, and other equipment exposed to aggressive chemicals. It's corrosion resistance and versatility make it a reliable choice in demanding environments
