Austenitic Alloy 254

Austenitic Alloy 254

Grade 254 SMO is a very high end austenitic stainless steel and cost effective substitute for high nickel and titanium alloy. Alloy 254 SMO is substantially stronger than the common austenitic grades, with strength nearly twice that of 300 series stainless steel.

Chemical Composition

A significant addition of Mo, Ni and Cu gives this alloy a good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. With high levels of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen, Alloy 254 SMO is frequently used in high chloride environments.

Properties

254 SMO sheet, 254 SMO plate & 254 SMO Coils, is a high-alloy austenitic stainless steel developed for use in seawater and other aggressive chloride-bearing media. With high levels of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen SMO 254 Sheets & Plates is frequently used in high chloride environments. Hence, it is available at many 254 SMO plate suppliers.

SMO 254 sheets and plates are also alloyed with niobium which allows good mechanical properties at high temperature. 254 SMO stainless steel plate and sheets are essentially non-magnetic in nature.

Alloy 254 Plates have higher carbon composition which exhibits improved high temperature and creep rupture properties. Alloy 254 sheets and plates can be annealed at a temperature ranging from 1010 Degree C to 1193 Degree C (1850 Degree F to 2000 Degree F) and then quenched with water. Alloy 254 Sheets have good resistance to corrosion and oxidation and good creep strength. Specification

The austenitic Stainless Steel SMO 254 sheet and plate specified by ASTM standard as  ASTM A 240 or ASME SA-240 are readily available in different types such as, for example, SMO 254 Plane sheet and Plate, Shim, Thin, Perforated, Polished, Diamond, Chequered, Hot rolled, Cold rolled, Annealed, Soft annealed , coils, clad plate, strip etc.

As per availability and requirement. Alloy 254 Sheets and Plate can be manufactured in different types but they also have different types of finishing on surface such as, Brushed ,Polished t, Mirror finish, Mirror polished, Hot rolled(HR), Cold rolled  (CR), 2B,2D, BA NO(8), SATIN(Met with Plastic coated). The 254 SMO plate price fluctuates depending upon different 254 SMO stainless steel suppliers and the quality of steel they provide.
